Match Betting

Each week I will take a look at Championship fixtures, picking out two or three bankers you would be silly not to back. Obviously i can’t guarantee success but with a bit of luck my strike rate will remain quite high.

I find that having a little punt on the outcome, or even the first goal scorer invariably makes matches much more enjoyable to watch. It really does matter more when there’s money on it…

Money situation:
Outlay: £70
Income: £96.60

Sunday 4th May, 2008

Cardiff (12th) v Barnsley (17th)
Tip :: Barnsley are safe from relegations fears and Cardiff have a cup final to prepare for, home advantage will prevail in the encounter. Cardiff win.

Wolves (7th) v Plymouth (10th)
Tip :: Wolves need a win in order to even think about going for a play-off spot. Surely they’ll get it against a Plymouth side who have nothing to play for? Wolves for the win.

Blackpool (18th) v Watford (5th)
Tip :: Both sides need the win in this one. Blackpool in order to secure their Championship status, Watford in order to secure a play-off spot. This could result in both sides cancelling each other out, so let’s go for the Draw.

A £10 treble on these three results pays out at 8.66/1, giving you profit of £86.60.

Good Luck.

Result: WINNER

Saturday 26th April, 2008

Watford (5th) v Scunthorpe (23rd)
Tip :: Now is not the time for Watford to be slipping up. Scunthorpe have shown that despite relegation they are still side to be wary of. Even so, I think that Watford’s strength in depth should see them emerge on top in this one.

Barnsley (19th) v Charlton (11th)
Tip :: Charlton are one of just five teams who have absolutely nothing to play for but pride. Addicks boss Alan Pardew has sent Leroy Lita back to Reading and has even suggested giving a few kids a run out. Barnsley on the other hand need the win, and i believe they’ll get it, just.

Coventry (17th) v Wolves (9th)
Tip :: Both these sides need the win, but for different reasons. Coventry have a decent home record, losing just one of their last eight at the Ricoh Arena while Wolves will need to attack in order to break down the Sky Blues defence. I can see these two equalling each other out, Draw.

A £10 treble on these three results pays out at 7.34/1, giving you profit of £73.40.

Good Luck.

Result: Loser.

Saturday 19th April, 2008

Scunthorpe (23rd) v Cardiff (11th)
Tip :: Relegated Scuthorpe have nothing to play for but pride, and with Cardiff preparing themselves for an FA Cup final you would think that the Bluebirds will be wanting to prove that they can get the better of a poor Scunny side.

Stoke City (3rd) v Bristol City (4th)
Tip :: Neither side will want to lose this one so it’s likely that they will cancel each other out, stick with the draw.

A £10 double on these two results produces odds of 5.82/1, giving you profit of £58.20.

Good Luck.

Result: Loser.

Saturday 22nd March, 2008

Cardiff (14th) v Bristol City (2nd)
Tip :: Cardiff have struggled of late, and with the distraction of an FA Cup semi-final in mind, Bristol City will be favourites for this clash.

Stoke (1st) v Blackpool (15th)
Tip :: Stoke are not at the summit of the division for no reason, their no nonsense style of play will be enough to see of Blackpool’s challenge.

Norwich (18th) v Colchester (24th)
Tip :: Norwich will be boosetd by the arrival of Blackburn’s Maceo Rigters on loan and with Colchester lacking any sort of form, the home side should prevail.

A £10 treble on these three results produces odds of 8.10/1, giving you profit of £81.00.

Good Luck.

Result: Loser.

Tuesday 18th March, 2008

Colchester (24th) v Hull (5th)
Tip :: Colchester need to start getting points on board and fast, they are 11 points from safety and with Hull flying high in 5th, a win may be just out of reach. That is not to say they won’t put up a fight, so for that reason, i’m backing the draw.

Wolverhampton (11th) v Scunthorpe (23rd)
Tip :: If Wolves are to make the play-offs these are the kind of games that they simply must win. The home crowd will be behind them, and if they can get off to a good start then surely they will bring the 3 points home. Wolves win.

A £10 double on these two results produce odds on an impressive 5.93/1, giving you profit of £53.90.

Good Luck.

Result: Loser.

Wednesday 11th March, 2008

QPR (15th) v Blackpool (12th)
Tip :: QPR have been revitalised since the January transfer window and with their own fans cheering them on, a home win is a near enough certainty.

Sheffield United (16th) v Coventry City (18th)
Tip :: Both teams have struggled this season and with Coventry having kept two clean sheets in their last two games and Sheffield United struggling for goals, a draw seems a likely result.

Burnley (10th) v Charlton Athletic (5th)
Tip :: Charlton will need to bounce back from defeat against lowly Preston and a win at Turfmoor is essential as they look to prove their play off credentials.

A £10 treble on these three results would boost your bank balance by £160.

Good Luck

Result: Loser.

Saturday 8th Match, 2008

Charlton Athletic (5th) v Preston North End (20th)
Tip :: Charlton Athletic should have enough to see off the challenge of North End. The recent loan addition of Leroy Lita will give everyone at the club a lift, and with The Addicks in good form, anything other than a home win would would have to be seen as a shock.

Hull City (8th) v Scunthorpe United (23rd)
Tip :: Scunthorpe will be buoyed by their recent win over Coventry City, but for me, Hull will emerge with the three points in this less than glamorous clash.

Leicester City (19th) v Bristol City (1st)
Tip :: Bristol City are a great unit and they have done surprisingly well this season, however Leicester need a win to allay any relegation fears and with The Foxes having lost their last home game 1-0 to Preston, Bristol should be wary of a backlash and so for that reason, i’m going to back Leicester.

A £10 treble on these three teams would net you a cool £78.

Good Luck

Result: Loser.

Hmmm… not having a lot of luck are we Stef? I’m sure you’ll pull one out the bag soon. As for this weeks selectons i agree with Watford and Barnsley both picking up wins, but i can’t see cov getting a point against a strong Wolves team, especially with Ebanks-Blake scoring goals like that.
